Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Your family’s conversations, memories, and moments are yours. We never sell them, never advertise against them, and never use them to train AI models. Nothing leaves Haklo unless you ask it to — and even then, only the minimum needed to do what you asked.

This isn’t a “for now” policy: Haklo works for your family, never for advertisers or data brokers. That’s how it’s built.

How Haklo Makes Money

Haklo earns through subscriptions. We are not building a data business — we’re building a family relationship business. The free tier has the same privacy guarantees as paid tiers. The difference is features and capacity, not how your data is handled.

Data We Collect

  • Account data: Email address and password (hashed) for authentication.
  • Family data: Family name, member names, emoji, colors, and roles.
  • Gathering data: Check-in responses, goals, priorities, and kindness commitments.
  • Coaching data: AI-generated coaching messages and interaction history.
  • Family chat: Messages members of a family send each other in the in-app chat. Chat is stored on our servers (it is not end-to-end encrypted) and is automatically deleted after a retention window (30 days by default).
  • Record entries: Items a family chooses to keep (dates, decisions, contacts, plans, preferences, and low-stakes shared logins such as a wifi password). Genuinely sensitive content — financial details, access or PIN codes, sensitive-account passwords, medical, custody, and a child’s precise location — is never kept.
  • Profile pictures: Optional photos uploaded by users.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide the Haklo app and its features
  • To generate personalized AI coaching via Claude (Anthropic)
  • To send invite emails when you invite family members
  • To send coaching notification reminders

We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not use your family’s content to train AI models — ours or anyone else’s.

Family Chat & the Librarian

Family Chat is a private, family-only thread — you only ever see messages from members of your own family. Messages are stored on our servers like a typical chat app (they are not end-to-end encrypted) and are deleted after your family’s retention window (30 days by default).

The librarianis an optional helper that is off by default and turned on only with an explicit in-app consent step. When it is on and a member taps “Review chat,” we send the family’s recent chat text to Anthropic to suggest entries for your Record. Before anything leaves Haklo, an automated filter removes genuinely sensitive content (financial and account numbers, access or PIN codes, sensitive-account passwords, medical, custody, and a child’s location), and children’s names are replaced with neutral tokens. A narrow set of low-stakes shared credentials — a wifi password, a streaming login, a membership number — may be kept under a “Wifi & logins” category. The librarian only suggests; a person confirms, edits, or dismisses every entry, and it never posts in the chat. You can turn it off anytime in Settings.

Data Ownership & Control

You own your data. You can delete it at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account; deletion is immediate and permanently removes all of your family’s data. Want a copy first? Request an export by contacting privacy@haklo.app before you delete.

Security

Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We do not work with data brokers. Access to production data is restricted to essential operations only.

Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

Children under 13 do not create their own accounts. Their family data (name, emoji, goals) is stored under the parent or guardian’s account. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Parents can request deletion of their family’s data at any time by contacting us at privacy@haklo.app.

Third-Party Services

  • Supabase: Database, authentication, and file storage
  • Anthropic (Claude): AI coaching, member arcs, and — when a family opts in — the chat librarian’s suggestions
  • Expo: Push notifications and app distribution
  • RevenueCat: Subscription purchases and entitlement status
  • Resend: Transactional email delivery

These services process data only as needed to operate Haklo. None of them receive your data for their own purposes, advertising, or model training.

Advertising Measurement

We use the Meta Pixel and the TikTok Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Each pixel records that a page was viewed and that a signup occurred, using anonymous browser-level signals (such as IP address, browser type, and a cookie identifier).

Neither pixel receives your name, email address, family size, or any other information you provide on our forms. We do not use Meta’s “Advanced Matching” feature or TikTok’s “Advanced Matching” feature, which would send hashed personal data to those platforms. We also enable Meta’s “Limited Data Use” flag globally, which signals Meta to apply its most restrictive data-handling rules to every visitor regardless of geography.

You can opt out of Facebook’s interest-based advertising at facebook.com/help/568137493302217 and TikTok’s personalized advertising at tiktok.com/legal/page/global/privacy-policy/en.

Future Programs

In the future, Haklo may offer an optional program allowing families to contribute anonymized, non-identifiable aggregate data to family wellness research. This program would always be opt-in, clearly explained, and separately consented to. We will communicate clearly before launching any such program.

Some optional features may let you connect, at your request, to third-party services. When you choose to use one, we share only the minimum needed to complete that request, with your consent — never a profile of your family, and never for advertising. These features are always optional and clearly explained before you use them.

Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data immediately from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account) or by emailing privacy@haklo.app.
