AI Coaching

Short, personal messages from a thoughtful coach who knows what your family talked about. A few times a week, never noisy, never shared with anyone outside your family.

AI Coaching is the layer of Haklo that turns last week's gathering into something that follows you through the days between. A short message on a Monday morning. A check-in on Wednesday. A quiet nudge on Thursday to do the kindness you committed to. Each one is written for you specifically — based on what your family shared, not a generic prompt.

It lives in the Coaching tab. It runs on Haklo Plus.

What you'll see

What does a coaching message look like?

A few sentences. Sometimes a little longer. The coach references something specific from your most recent gathering — your priorities, your goal, your check-in — and adds a thought or a question for the day.

You won't see a stream of messages. Coaching is paced — typically one short message on a coaching day, plus optional ones you can ask for.

When do messages appear?

Coaching follows a weekly rhythm:

  • Monday — Monday Kickoff. A look at the week ahead given what you shared.
  • Wednesday — Midweek Check-in. How the priorities from your last gathering are landing.
  • Thursday — Kindness Nudge. A reminder about the quiet kindness you committed to.
  • Saturday — Meeting Prep. A gentle prompt before your next gathering.

Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday have no scheduled coaching. On those days you'll see "No scheduled coaching today — but you can always ask" and you can request one of the four message types on demand.

What about right after a gathering?

The Coach also generates a brief celebratory Post-Meeting message right after your weekly gathering completes. This one fires automatically — you don't have to ask.

What's "Family Pulse"?

If you're the facilitator (the parent who usually starts the gathering), you'll see a Family Pulse card on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's a short read on how the family is doing this week — drawn from what everyone shared at the last gathering. It's only shown to facilitators because it summarizes the family's collective state, which not every family member necessarily wants delivered to them as a summary.

Encouraging each other

The Coach can also help you reach out to specific family members.

How does that work?

In the Coaching tab you'll see a section called Encourage Your Family with one card per family member (other than yourself). Tap Draft encouragement for someone — the Coach will draft a short, warm message based on what that person shared at the last gathering. You can edit the draft before sending, or send as-is.

The recipient sees it in their Encouragement You've Received section the next time they open Haklo. Up to five recent encouragements are visible.

Will I get a notification?

No. Encouragement waits for the recipient the next time they're in the app. Heard's no-push pattern applies here too — the family stays in charge of when they engage.

Privacy and the AI

This is the part most parents want to understand carefully.

What does the AI see?

The Coach sees what your family shared at the most recent gathering — priorities, goals, check-ins, kindness commitments — plus the family name and member names. It does not see anything from outside Haklo, and it does not see any other family's data.

Where does the AI run?

On servers we control. The actual call to the AI model happens server-side, not on your phone. Your family's data is sent to the AI for that one message, then the response comes back. Haklo's API key for the AI is never on a phone — only on the server.

Are coaching messages used to train AI?

No. Haklo does not send your family's data to be used as training data. See our privacy policy for the broader position.

What about kids' names?

Children under 13 are extra-protected. Before any message goes to the AI, the names of children under 13 in your family are swapped out for placeholder tokens (think "child #1"). The AI never sees their real names. The placeholders are swapped back to real names only when the message comes back, before it's stored or shown to you.

This means even if the AI provider's logs were somehow exposed, the names of your young kids wouldn't be in them.

Do my kids see the coaching messages?

Children under 13 don't see the Coaching tab at all. Teens (13 and up) on their own accounts can see their own coaching, but never see messages addressed to siblings or parents.

Tier and access

Do I need to pay for this?

Yes. AI Coaching runs on Haklo Plus. If you're on the free plan, opening the Coaching tab will show you the upgrade screen instead of coaching messages.

What if I don't want AI Coaching but I want to keep the rest of Haklo?

That's fine. The free plan includes the weekly gathering, the recap of what everyone shared, Heard, and the family record — everything except the coaching layer and the AI-written summaries.

What happens if my Plus subscription ends?

The Coaching tab returns to the upgrade screen. Your past coaching messages stay in the family record — they're not deleted. You just stop receiving new ones until you re-subscribe.

When things go quiet

A few situations where coaching might not appear when you expect it:

"No coaching available right now"

Sometimes Haklo pauses the AI surface — usually for a short maintenance window or a temporary safety pause. When that happens, you'll see a brief explanation in the Coaching tab. It's not something you broke; it'll come back.

"Complete a family meeting first"

The Coach needs at least one weekly gathering to write from. If your family hasn't had one yet, the Coaching tab will tell you so.

"Your last meeting was a while ago"

If your most recent gathering is more than about ten days old, the Coach won't pretend the priorities you set then are still current. You'll see softer, less-specific coaching until you have a fresh gathering — the Coach would rather be honest about not knowing than make up details.
